Gambling Ads on YouTube Allowed
Until recently, all kinds of gambling advertisements have not been allowed on Google, the most well known search engine on the web. YouTube which is run by Google, are now allowing gambling adverts for their UK viewers. By Google allowing these kinds of ads, it shows that they are moving forward.
The YouTube homepage along with brand channels and ads on video pages will be available for online gambling advertising. By using age-restricted campaigns, online gambling companies and betting companies that offer their business to UK players will be allowed to promote themselves on YouTube.
YouTube will monitor the age-restriction carefully. Users of the site will only be able to view the gambling ads if they are over 18. Their accounts will first need to be verified; when that is done ads will appear on the site while they use it.
Ladbrokes will be the first to advertise on the YouTube site. They are one of larger players in the UK online gambling scene and will be running a click-to-play campaign.
James Cashmoore of Google revealed that despite recent partnership with problem gambling charity GamCare they have not been directly consulted about the new policies. He also said that he is confident the advertisements won't be available to underage consumers.
Google is moving forward with their advertising policy. From allowing paid search gambling terms and allowing spirit brands to use AdWords to the gambling ads on YouTube, Google's direction of change is clear.
Many top casinos are almost 95% counting on their search results, so surely this would be a great opportunity for increasing their visibility though this monster engine.
